AILEEN K. LEO

An Ottawa-based artist working across painting, printmaking, mixed media, and photography.

Aileen K. Leo holds a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts from the University of Ottawa and studied printmaking at the Ottawa School of Art.

Her practice moves between observation, memory, and material experimentation, often returning to questions of the environment, social justice, and the emotional weight of what is left unresolved.

Since 2018, Aileen has exhibited her work publicly in Ottawa, Toronto, and Victoria, including exhibitions at the Ottawa School of Art, Gallery 55 in the ByWard Market, and the Nepean Creative Arts Centre. She has participated in the New Edinburgh Studio Tour since 2023.

Artist Statement

My focus as an artist is on the environment and issues involving social justice. In the words of one of my favourite authors, Raymond Carver, the space between the words is just as important as the words themselves: underneath the surface of things there is ambiguity and insecurity.

In this space between certainty and uncertainty, my work seeks to evoke an emotional response.
